The Starry Night Quilterís Guild prepared for an entire year to make quilts for a group of veterans.
The members were able to give 26 lap quilts to the men and women at the Hefner VA Medical Centerís southport wing.
ěOur guild, weíve always donated quilts to different charities as a way to give back to the charity. We have given quilts to the Family Crisis Council this year,î said Cindy Sipp, president-elect.
Sipp was in search of an organization to which the guild could donate quilts and decided on the VA.
ěIt was so heartwarming to see the response from the men. Some were overwhelmed that we didnít forget. They were grateful that somebdy remembered. Some of them have no visitors,î Sipp said.
She said it made the quilters feel good to be able to present the quilts.
The quilts are large enough to be placed over the lap of a wheelchair bound veteran or across his or her bed.
ěIt took the community to make the quilts that we donated,î she said.
Some of the material was donated by Cornerstone Church.
There are 35 members of the guild.
The members are starting now for their next quilting project, which is the May 2012 Quilt Show.
The Starry Night Quilterís Guild meets the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Rufty- Holmes Senior Center.
