SALISBURY — Don’t forget, the annual Veterans Day parade steps off at 2:30 p.m. today on South Main Street.
Starting at Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, the parade will travel north on Main and conclude at Kerr Street. It’s the second of two parades. The first one is for veterans on the campus of the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center. That one starts at 1 p.m.
Both parades will include bands, floats, military vehicles, pageant queens and more.

Sgt. 1st Class Scott Dickinson, a Kannapolis-based U.S. Army recruiter and Iraq War veteran, will deliver the keynote address Friday at the annual Veterans Day observance sponsored by the Rowan County Veteran Council.
The 10 a.m. observance at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center will honor veterans and features the announcement of the veteran of the year, chaplain of the year and service officer of the year.

SALISBURY — Food Lion will offer a 10 percent discount to active and retired military personnel today.
Active military, reservists and veterans should request the discount at check-out along with their MVP card.
In addition to the 10 percent discount, representatives from 1,283 Food Lion, Harveys and Reid’s stores, along with the company’s corporate offices, distribution and transportation centers, will at 11 a.m. simultaneously sign the U.S. Department of Defense Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve’s Statement of Support.
It’s the largest, one-time signing of Statement of Support, and allows Food Lion to acknowledge the company’s commitment to all associates who serve in the Guard and Reserve, according to a press release.
The company is also making a $134,000 donation Friday to the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization with the single mission to honor and empower our wounded heroes.

CHINA GROVE — Veterans Day honors continue Saturday when the Price of Freedom Museum in the old Patterson School building in southern Rowan hosts an event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
With a “Pearl Harbor Memories” theme, the day includes a ceremony with music by the Corriher Lipe Middle School chorus and displays of military vehicles, military weapons and war-related memorabilia.
Admission is free, but there is a cost for food and drinks. The museum and “A” Company of the CMVPA host the event.
