Four of the orchestra’s finest violinists are soloists, one per season: Concertmaster Daniel Skidmore, Associate Concertmaster R.J.Wohlman, Assistant Concertmaster Sarah Womack, and Principal Second Violin Allison Willet.
Vivaldi wrote sonnets to accompany each of the movements, and those will be displayed on the screens on either side of the stage in both Italian and English for the appropriate season.
In addition, the Land Trust of Central North Carolina has collected breathtaking photographs of the seasons and will share those on the screens as well.
After intermission, Dvorak’s Symphony 9, “From the New World” will take the audience back to America at the turn of the 20th century. A visitor to the “new world,” Dvorak was captivated by the energy and synergy of the people and their music as Dr. Renee McCachren mentions in the program notes, “It was through his total immersion with those cultures that he captured the spirit of African-American and Native American music in his melodies.”
