SALISBURY — A Granite Quarry man led deputies on a wild chase Thursday morning, never going over 50 mph and surrendering peacefully in his driveway.
A Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report said 44-year-old Perry Hackett refused to stop for officers because he didn’t want to pay a tow-and-store fee and “just wanted to get his car home.”
The slow-speed chase ensued after the license tag of Hackett’s 1989 Honda came back to a Dodge Caravan, the report said.
Officers said Hackett was also driving without insurance and a valid driver’s license.
The chase began at about 3:15 a.m., moving from Stokes Ferry Road to Dunns Mountain Road and eventually to the driver’s residence.
Hackett never slowed in the chase, except to maintain the posted speed limit, and was immediately arrested after he pulled into his driveway at 125 Cemetery Circle.
Along with the traffic charges, the Granite Quarry man was charged with misdemeanor fleeing arrest, resisting, obstructing or delaying officers and failing to stop at a stop sign.
He was given a $5,000 bond and was in jail Friday morning.
