SALISBURY — A local Masonic organization has adopted Old Mocksville Road and will hold its first clean-up Saturday.
The Eureka Lodge No. 45, based in Salisbury, adopted Old Mocksville Road from Mahaley Avenue to Trexler’s Loop, according to Jeff Leach with the N.C. Department of Transportation. The group is required to do litter patrol at least four times a year and will have responsibility for the stretch of highway until 2015, Leach said.
Lodge Secretary Tyrone Fox said the group would like to partner with other organizations and encourage youth to become involved in the clean-up effort.
“We’ll offer kids the opportunity to do their community service with us,” Fox said. “We’ll work with other organizations to kind of give back to the community.”

Another organization has a road clean-up effort in the works. The Sisters of Essence Order of Eastern Stars have signed up to clean Kenly Street in Green Hills at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 15.
