SALISBURY — A man who died in a car wreck on N.C. 150 on Monday was scheduled to be evicted from his home the same day.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said John Patrick Jobe, 59, was initially notified about the eviction on July 20. A deputy arrived at his 2105 Old Concord Road home at 9 a.m. with the eviction notice, just three hours after Jobe died when his Ford Taurus struck a tree and flipped in the 3100 block of N.C. 150.
Rowan County Animal Control has spent the last two days removing animals from the home, according to Animal Control Supervisor Clai Martin.
“We removed about 50 cats and a couple of dogs from there yesterday,” Martin said. “they removed about 30 more cats today and there are some still in the house.”
The deputy who visited the home on Monday reported that it appeared Jobe had “completely emptied out the pet food bags into the food dishes.”
Several cats could be seen outside around the front door of the home on Wednesday.
A Post reporter visited the home on Monday and saw about a dozen cats outside the home’s door, many of them in cages.
Martin said Animal Control has been working closely with the Humane Society and other rescue groups to provide care for the animals.
“Sadly, many are sick and will not be available for adoption,” Martin said.
Martin said the home is still filled with cats and Animal Control officers will be removing more animals today.
“They don’t know how many,” Martin said. “We’ll go back in and get them.”
Animal Control will work with rescue groups to help the healthy animals find homes.
Martin said he expects the home to be demolished as early as Oct. 13.
“It was deplorable,” he said.
