CHINA GROVE ó The Rowan County Domestic Violence Taskforce and Rowan County Family Crisis Council are sponsoring a domestic violence candlelight vigil on Monday.
The vigil is from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. on the steps of the Rowan County courthouse, on North Main Street, Salisbury.
The vigil is an opportunity to support domestic violence survivors and those who have lost their lives to domestic violence.
ěWe will have someone speaking, Sabrina, who is a domestic violence survivor,î said Linda Coplin, a community engagement coordinator with the Family Crisis Council.
Sabrina, whose last name is being withheld, arrived in Salisbury not knowing anyone, Coplin said.
She was able to connect Rowan County Family Crisis Council and with someone who helped her with housing.
Sabrina began attending support meeting with the Family Crisis Council.
ěShe will be sharing more of what she felt and experienced and how she overcame domestic violence,î Coplin said.
Those in attendance will light candles and hear a monologue from students from the Me Time group, a mentoring program offered at Salisbury High.
Each day this month, the Family Crisis Council will post domestic violence facts and and information on its Facebook. Find the Facebook page at Family Crisis Council ó Rowan County.
The Family Crisis Council is a Rowan County United Way agency.
