SALISBURY — A Catawba College student is being disciplined by the school after he allegedly vandalized several athletic practice fields with a pickup truck.
A Salisbury Police report said a white truck was seen driving off the lacrosse, soccer and football fields at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday. The college has not released the student’s name.
Catawba College Spokeswoman Tonia Black-Gold said the vandalized athletic fields were “totally out of commission.”
Black-Gold said the school is in the process of getting estimates to repair the damage. No official estimate was available Wednesday.
The student, she said, is going through the college’s conduct system. She said the student’s identity will not be released if he accepts the conduct decision.
The school’s sports teams are now “doubling up” and playing on the school’s undamaged fields, she said.
A neighbor told police Sunday morning he heard the truck’s engine revving. The neighbor then saw the pickup leave the fields after doing doughnuts while it was raining heavily, the report said.
