SALISBURY ó A driver ran a stop sign at N.C. 152 and Castor Road Friday night, resulting in a three-car wreck and two injuries, authorities say.
Larry Reid, 61, who lives mostly in Florida but has a home in Rowan County off Holshouser Road, was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after the accident, said Trooper A.J. Carpenter of the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
Reid was not listed as a patient at the hospital Saturday night.
Reid was driving a van south on Castor Road toward N.C. 152 from Faith at 8:36 p.m. Friday, Carpenter said. Reid was traveling with his wife, Cathy, who was not injured in the wreck.
When Reid ran the stop sign, a box truck struck the van, Carpenter said. The van spun around and hit a passenger car head-on that was swerving to avoid the collision, he said.
The van was knocked into the nearby woods on impact, and the passenger car came to rest near the intersection.
Reid, who was briefly trapped in the van, was unresponsive at the scene, Carpenter said. A medical helicopter landed at New Haven Baptist Church to take Reid to the hospital.
Reid was cited for failing to stop at the stop sign. He was wearing his seatbelt, and no alcohol was involved, Carpenter said.
The driver of the box truck, Anthony Robertson, 36, of Jackson Road in Salisbury, suffered no injuries and minor damage to his vehicle.
The driver of the passenger car, Anita Gentle, 50, of North Chapel Street in Landis, was transported to CMC-NorthEast in Concord, where she was treated and released.
