Kannapolis YMCA plans triathlon

The Right Gear Tri-It @ the Y Sprint Triathlon is scheduled for next [0x13]Sunday.
This will be the inaugural event for the Kannapolis Cannon YMCA. Sprint distances for the triathlon are a 300-meter swim, 11.4 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run. Start time is 8 a.m.
Race Director Renee Hogan invites all triathletes to come experience the event.
ěThis is a perfect distance for novice triathletes. They can get a real taste of the competition. For the experienced triathlete, it is a good late season test for level of fitness. Early fall temperatures should help with best performance,î Hogan said.
The 300 meter swim is in the pool, and all participants will be seeded based on predicted swim time. Bike and run courses are in the neighborhoods surrounding the YMCA area. The run course is a USATF certified 5K.
Right Gear is the Title Sponsor. Jim OíBrien, an internationally known bike mechanic, is the owner of Right Gear.
He has built and fitted bikes for athletes who have participated in the Olympics, World Championships, Pan American Games and many more.
OíBrienís expertise has enabled world class athletes to attain their full potential. This expertise is available daily at the Right Gear shop in Kannapolis at the Clover Leaf Plaza.
OíBrien will also be on hand to check out your bike at the triathlon.
Entry is available at the YMCA at 101 YMCA Drive in Kannapolis, and at www.active.com . Team competition is also open to male, female, and mixed teams.
All participants will receive a top quality dri-fit shirt. Champion Chip Timing and Scoring will be done by RMS Sports.
Packet pick up and registration are available at the Y from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday. Race day registration will begin at 6:30 a.m.
Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female participants, top three masters male and females, the top three in each age group, and the top male, female and mixed team.
Thirteen male and female age group awards will be presented.
