Time: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Central 2-2, 0-1 SPC; A.L. Brown 4-1, 1-0 SPC
Series: Wonders have won all 22 meetings. No kidding.
The series began with a 28-0 victory by the Wonders in 1981.
Central came close to upsetting the Wonders in a 7-6 loss in 2007, but since then it’s been lopsided — 48-6, 45-0, 56-14.
Last meeting: In A.L. Brown’s 56-14 romp in 2010. Central actually led 14-7 in the second quarter, but the Wonders scored the next 49.
Last week: Central lost 27-14 to Hickory Ridge; A.L. Brown thumped Robinson 48-0
Next week: Central Cabarrus is home against Concord; Brown is home against Cox Mill
Game notes: Brown’s offensive numbers are phenomenal, right at 400 yards per game and 40.4 points per game.
Even with star Damien Washington ailing, the Wonders got huge performances from RB Kalif Phillips (four TDs, 181 rushing yards), QB Brandon Eppinger (four passing TDs), WR Terrance Highsmith and K Erik Amaya last week in an easier than expected wipeout of Robinson.
Brown’s defense rebounded from its school-record-setting struggle against Porter Ridge to post a shutout of a Robinson offense that scored 49 points against Carson the previous week.
Defensively, Brown is allowing 18.2 points a game. Those numbers got a nice boost from last week’s shutout, the first posted by the Wonders since a mid-2008 45-0 victory over Central.
Ty Young ran back a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown last week for Central, and Hasaan Klugh scored a rushing TD.
Central is much more athletic than it’s been in recent years, but it’s been plagued by turnovers.
