Pfeiffer welcomes the public to homecoming this weekend

Pfeiffer University welcomes alumni and friends and invites the community to ěReturn to Sender,î Homecoming 2011, Sept. 24-25 at its Misenheimer campus, 48380 U.S. 52 N.
In addition to class reunions and other events geared for Pfeiffer students and returning alumni, a wide array of music, athletics and entertainment opportunities, including appearances by Elvis tribute artists who represent this yearís homecoming theme, are available for the general public all day Saturday and Sunday morning.
ěThe Pfeiffer family includes all the communities that surround our historic campus in Misenheimer,î said Mike Miller, president of Pfeiffer University. ěOur evolution over the past 125 years from secondary school to junior college to college and now a university with additional campuses in Charlotte and the Research Triangle ó as well as the ëvirtual campusí we offer through online opportunities ó is possible only through the dedicated support of all our neighbors. Weíre thrilled to show our appreciation by inviting everyone to share the fun of homecoming.î

Events include:
Saturday
8 a.m., 5K Race and 1-Mile Kidsí Fun Run; $20 in advance; $25 on race day. Fun Run for kids is free. Register online: www. active.com/running/misenheimer-nc. Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity of Stanly County. On-site registration and pre-registered check-in begins at 7 a.m.; all runners line up at 7:30 by the Administration building.
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Kidsí Zone/North Lawn. Kids of all ages enjoy face painting, bounce house, dunk tank, caricature artist and other fun on the lawn.
11 a.m., Campus Tour/Stokes Student Center. University archivist Jonathan Hutchinson leads a fascinating tour of Pfeifferís historic campus.
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Lunch on the Lawn/North Lawn, large tent. Please note: A limited number of tickets are available and online pre-registration is required; adults, $10; children under 10, $5.
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Pfeiffer University Jazz Ensemble/North Lawn.
1-4 p.m., The Real Clays/North Lawn. One of North Carolinaís premier party variety bands, The Real Clays will perform rock, country, beach, Motown, funk, disco, and R&B favorites from the í50s, í60s and í70s.
1-4 p.m.óAlumni Association Silent Auction/North Lawn
Preview and bid for items online, http://auctions. readysetauction.com/pfeifferuniversity. Proceeds will benefit campus needs of Pfeiffer students. Highest bidders are not required to be present at the auctionís conclusion.
All AfternoonóElvis Tribute Artists /North Lawn
Roy Gaddy and J. Elvis Clough, with combined 30 years of experience as Elvis tribute artists, will be on hand throughout the afternoon to mingle and mix with visitors for photo opportunities and fun.
5-7 p.m. Featured Entertainer: Renowned Elvis Impersonator Tom Bartlett/ North Lawn
Las Vegas legend Tom Bartlett, known for delivering what is described as ěthe greatest Elvis tribute show on Earth,î will take the main stage with his band. Please note: The performance is free; a limited number of tickets for Memphis BBQ during the show are available (Adults $10; children under 10 $5) through required, online pre-registration.Athletics Events/Free of charge (concessions available)
9 a.m. Womenís Tennis vs. USC Lancaster Lancers, Knapp Tennis Center

Homecoming activities will conclude with a worship service conducted by Rev. Dana McKim í82, pastor of the Village Church, and will feature guest pastor Rev. Marion Swann í61.
