Last Friday, Miller and Sons produce had onions, okra, corn, squash, cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, bell peppers, cantaloupe, watermelons, apples, pears, grapes, sweet potatoes, honey and fresh eggs.
A collage of about 30 pictures were on display at the market showing where the produce is grown, Laura Miller in her garden, chicken pen with red sex link layers (cross-bred chickens whose color at hatching is differentiated by sex) and areas being prepared for planting strawberry plants next month for next spring.
The Largest Watermelon Contest has two categories ó youth and adult. Seth Hunt, 12 years old, has made two entries: 89[0xbd] pounds and 98[0xbd] pounds. Watermelon was on display at Goodmanís Farm Supply on Saturday morning. A 140+ pounds watermelon has been entered by Buddy Edwards in the adult division.
Watermelons can be weighed each Friday at the market. Contest ends Friday, Sept. 30. More than one entry is allowed. Watermelons must be grown in Rowan County. For more information call Alan Goodman at 704-857-5938.
There will be a fresh apple cider demonstration this Friday by Alan Goodman.
There will be a stir fry cooking demonstration on either Sept. 30 or Oct. 7 by Alan Goodman. All vegetables will be from vendors on site. Previous demonstration featured squash, cabbage, onions, and zucchini. Demonstration will start around 5:30 p.m. Come and see how a delicious meal can be prepared quickly and easy. Mr. Goodman fed the vendors after the last demonstration. Along with fresh stir-fried vegetables they also enjoyed rice and fresh grilled chicken locally grown.
Come to the China Grove Farmerís Market for a fun and educational experience at the China Grove Roller Mill Museum each Friday from 4-7 p.m. The market ends Oct. 7.
