Catawbaís cross country teams ran at the Carson-Newman Challenge on Saturday at Panther Creek State Park.
The Catawba women finished fifth out of eight teams, with the men sixth out of nine.
Junior Christian Crifasi was the top runner for the men. He covered the 8K course in a time of 27:01 and placed fifth. Sophomore Olivia Myers was the top finisher for the women. She was 20th in 22:05 on a 5K course.
n Catawbaís volleyball team edged Tusculum 22-25, 22-25, 30-28, 25-20, 15-12 on Saturday at Goodman Gym for a SAC victory.
Shay Meeks recorded a match-high 22 kills and Jenny Young set a school record by accounting for over half of the digs for the Indians (9-2, 4-1) with 55.
n Alyssa Wombwell scored a pair of goals to lead Pfeiffer to a 2-1 win against Catawbaís womenís soccer team.
The Indians (1-5) scored when a steal by Brittany Gibbons (West Rowan) led to a cross by Alyssa Retundie and a goal by Kristin Girardi.
n Eric Pajunk converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute to lift Barton to a 3-2 win against Catawbaís menís soccer team.
Catawba (2-4) got two goals from Corey Faughnan and eight saves from Evan Harvey.
n Prep tennis
Salisburyís girls tennis team beat Lake Norman Friday to improve to 9-1. The 4A Wildcats fell to 8-2.
Katelyn Storey, Erika Nelson, Madeline Hoskins, Sallie Kate Meyerhoeffer and Alexandra Drye had singles wins.
Joy Loeblein-Nelson, Storey-Hoskins and Meyerhoeffer-Drye won in doubles.
n Local golf
The Rowan Honor Guard, a volunteer organization that honors deceased veterans, will host a fundraiser golf tournament on Oct. 7 at Crescent Golf Club.
The cost is $50 per person. Lunch is at 11 a.m. with tee time at noon. Cash prizes will be awarded.
The tournament format will be captainís choice. The organization will be senior-friendly.

Rowan County Officials Association middle school basketball refs will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, at Erwin Middle School.
Officials should be registered with the NCHSAA organization.
