Heroic actions
ěSome people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference,î President Reagan said in 1985. ěThe Marines don’t have that problem.î
That would be especially true of Marine Cpl. Dakota Meyer, who defied orders in September 2009 and drove a Humvee into heavy gunfire to rescue comrades under attack in Afghanistan ó not once, but five times. Heís credited with saving the lives of 36 people.
On Thursday, President Obama presented Meyer with the nationís highest military award, the Medal of Honor. Meyer richly deserved the award. He stands as proof that the selflessness of the Greatest Generation lives on.
