Atkins is a 2A team, but the magnet school has a 1A enrollment.
The Camels ó at least they have a solid nickname ó have played their first four games against large schools in the Winston area, and the results have not been pretty.
Atkins lost 43-0 to Mount Tabor, 56-6 to Parkland and 57-0 to R.J. Reynolds before being swamped by previously winless Reagan last week.
Believe it or not, the games have been worse than the scores indicate. Atkins has been getting down seven or eight TDs by halftime.
Salisburyís defense, which includes lineman Sam Humble and DB Robin Moulton, will likely pitch its second shutout of the season, and the Hornetsí talented backfield of Brian Bauk, Justin Ruffin, Dominique Dismuke and Max Allen probably wonít need many carries to score a bunch of touchdowns.
This contest is Salisburyís endowment game, which explains why the jayvees didnít play Thursday.
This is probably a good time to mention the rules changes on endowment games this season. Endowment games are now the only ones that can be dropped for playoff seeding purposes. In the past, teams were able to drop any random non-conference loss they wished to drop, but thatís no longer the case. Maybe the NCHSAA was getting tired of so many 10-1 teams becoming 10-0 when it was time to seed.
