The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin strengthening the shoulders of I-85 between Bruton Smith Boulevard and N.C. 73 in Concord from 9 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, weather permitting. The contractor, Lane Construction, will be closing the right lane each night for the next six weeks, working in sections beginning on I-85 North, then switching to I-85 South.
This work is necessary to make the outside shoulders of the interstate stronger to carry heavier amounts of traffic during the I-85 widening project.
Motorists should also be alert for shoulder closures during the day.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
