SALISBURY — A 39-year-old man was flown to a Winston-Salem hospital Saturday night after his car clipped a pickup at the intersection of Joe Lentz and St. Matthews Church roads.
The intersection is not far from Liberty Fire Department.
Samuel Lewis Lineberry, 23, of 330 S. Fisherman Lane, Salisbury, was heading north on St. Matthews Church Road around 7:45 p.m. when his 1975 GMC pickup was struck from behind.
The other driver, whose name has not been released, was driving a 1999 Pontiac passenger car south on St. Matthews Church Road.
He crossed the center line and collided with the left rear axle of the truck.
The man was temporarily pinned in his vehicle.
“His condition is undetermined,” said Highway Patrol Trooper B.P. Potts.
The man was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Lineberry’s vehicle ran off the left side of the road, overturned and came to rest on its left side.
Lineberry was able to get out of his truck on his on, Potts said.
Lineberry complained of pain in his left arm, but refused treatment Potts said.
Rowan County Rescue Squad, Rowan County EMS and Liberty Fire Department responded.
No other details were available.
Single-vehicle accident
The N.C. Highway Patrol is also investigating another Saturday accident. The single-vehicle accident occurred just before 2 p.m. on Freeze Road.
Enochville Fire Chief Clark Mackey said his department was dispatched to the scene and found a sport utility vehicle engulfed in flames.
“There was one male patient,” Mackey said.
Rowan EMS took over care of the patient and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.
Troopers were still investigating at the scene hours later. No other details were immediately available in that collision.
In addition to Enochville, Atwell Township also responded. Freeze Road is not far from the Iredell-Cabarrus County line.
