Published 12:00 am Friday, September 9, 2011

Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Records: Concord Jay M. Robinson 0-2; Carson 1-1
Series: Carson leads 2-0
Last meeting: Carson outscored the Bulldogs 49-35 in 2010 as Shaun Warren (Western Carolina) romped for 242 yards on 26 carries.
Notable: Carson thumped Robinson 42-12 in China Grove in 2009 in the first meeting between the schools, rushing for 202 yards and passing for 178.
Last week: Both teams had scheduled games wiped out
Next week: Robinson has the daunting task of opening SPC play against favorite A.L. Brown; Carson has a friendly opener in the NPC, taking on East Rowan at home
Game notes: Both teams are coming in off an unplanned break in the schedule. Neither was able to play Friday because of storms, pushed games back to Monday and watched them get erased again by Mother Nature. That wasn’t all bad. The off week had to help several key Carson players heal, including running back Travis Abbitt.
Carson has to be favored tonight against the only SPC team yet to taste victory. Carson beat North Rowan opening night and played even with Northwest Cabarrus, although the Cougars came out on the short end on the scoreboard.
Carson veterans such as DB Zach Blythe and receiver K.J. Pressley should have plenty of confidence tonight. The Cougars have but up serious numbers against Robinson each of the past two seasons.
Austin McNeil (99 yards per game) is second in the county passing stats, while Brandon Sloop rushed for 135 yards against Northwest.
Carson’s defense has been excellent and leads the county in scoring defense (9.5 points per game)
Robinson’s defense has been trampled by Lexington and Monroe.
