The Centennial Exhibit – A Story Of Love: The life works of Robert and Kay Doares
In honor of the 100th birthday of artist Robert Doares, the community will celebrate with an exhibit and reception to be held at Center for Faith & the Arts Galleries, 207 W. Harrison St. in Salisbury (lower level of Haven Lutheran Church), from Sept. 9 through 11.
A reception will be held Friday, Sept 9 from 5-8 p.m. The exhibit will also be open Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m.. The public is invited and the exhibit and reception are both free.
Bob was a prolific painter, especially known for his depictions of biblical scenes. He was born in Maxton, NC, in 1911, and retired to Salisbury in 1973 with his wife Kay, also a fine artist. The couple willed much of their artwork to four organizations: the Maxton Historical Society, Rowan Helping Ministries, the Good Shepherd’s Clinic, and the Historic Salisbury Foundation. These organizations are all working together to present the upcoming art show at Center for Faith & the Arts. Shortly after this exhibit, the artwork will be going to its new home in a wing being built to house it in the museum in Maxton.
