Salisbury’s Hurley YMCA is putting on a basketball skills, speed and agility clinic on Friday, Sept. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 10.
Special guest is Bobby Jackson, former Salisbury high great and NBA star who is now a scout for the Sacramento Kings. Also attending will be former North Rowan and Catawba standout Andrew Mitchell, who coached state championship teams at Salisbury (girls) and North Rowan (boys) the last three years, and speed and agility guru Mackeon Bruton.
The clinic on Friday from 4-7 p.m. is for ages 15-up in grades 8-12. Players must have high school eligibility.
The clinic on Saturday from 8-10 a.m. is for players ages 8-14 and in grades 3-7.

True freshman Eric Cowan (West Rowan) started at cornerback for West Liberty State on Saturday and had a 30-yard punt return.
College volleyball
Catawba swept Pfeiffer 25-18, 25-17, 25-19 on Tuesday night. Kaitlyn Whitmer had 11 kills, Jenny Young had 21 digs, and Jordan Raye had 29 assists for the Indians (4-1).
Prep volleyball
Carson’s varsity (9-1) swept West Davidson 25-13, 25-7, 25-15 on Tuesday. Carson’s jayvees prevailed 25-11, 25-18.
Prep cross country
East Rowan’s Brad Oden was fifth in 17:19 in the 5000-meter race in the SCSDB Eye Opener held in Spartanburg on Saturday.
Minor league baseball
The Kannapolis Intimidators announced a franchise attendance record, drawing 138,487 fans to Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium for 67 games, an average of 2,067 per game.
