nTime: 7:30 p.m.
nRecords: NW Cabarrus 1-0; South Rowan 0-2
nSeries: South leads 20-8. From 1977-1986 the Raiders won nine out of 10 meetings
nLast meeting: Northwest prevailed 21-12 in 2010
nStreak: NWC is 3-1 since the series resumed in 2007.
nHistory: In 1997, South QB Charles Sherrill set school records with 242 passing yards and five TDs against NWC.
nLast week: Northwest won 13-7 at Carson; South was mauled by A.L. Brown 63-12
nNext week: Northwest is at home against Mooresville; South travels to Salisbury
nGame notes: Northwest isnít an offensive juggernaut, but the Trojans still should put up four or five touchdowns against a South defense thatís allowing 400 yards and 47 points a game.
RB Jalen Caldwell(81 rushing yards, one TD) and QB Colby Williford (140 yards total offense, one TD) got the job done in a tough win at Carson last week.
The biggest reason Northwest overcame the Cougars was that its defense (thereís a lot of experience in the Trojansí back seven) came up with four turnovers, including three interceptions.
South has a lot of guys putting up solid offensive numbers.
Josh Medlin owns two straight 100-yard receiving games, which is probably unprecedented in the county for a tight end. QB Nathan Lambert has thrown for a county-best 365 yards, while RB Ricky Sherrill has plowed for a county-leading 204 yards and has been the countyís top workhorse with 48 carries. Where South has to improve, however, is the defensive side. Juniors such as lineman Devin Mason and LB Bubba McLaughlin have a chance to be very good.
