Published 12:00 am Friday, September 2, 2011

Time: 7:30 p.m.
Records: North Rowan 0-2; East Rowan 0-2
Series: North leads 35-16-1
Last meeting: East rallied to beat North 21-20 in 2010
Last week: North was battered 35-6 by Salisbury; East was smashed 58-0 by Concord
Streak: East has won four in a row in the series, managing to beat the Cavs for its only victory in 2008 and for one of its two wins in 2010.
North’s last victory against East was a 36-15 win in 2006. North still holds such a huge lead in the series in part because it beat the Mustangs 11 straight times from 1992-2002.
Next week: North will play University Christian, a Florida squad, in a Saturday matinee game at West Rowan; East travels to Harrisburg to play Hickory Ridge
Game notes: Both teams badly need a win. Obviously, somebody’s going to get one.
East doesn’t have many winnable games on the schedule. Especially when you take into account East’s recent run of success against North, this has to be considered one of its better chances to break through.
After two games, East’s offense has 82 total yards, while North has managed just 131. One score could win this game. With Jantzen Stirewalt, East is the more likely team to boot a field goal, but North appears more likely to break a long run.
North’s defense has been fair, but it’s scored only one offensive TD in two games, while going up against the county’s top two defensive units.
East has been, for lack of a better word — dreadful — on both sides of the ball to this point, although it should be noted that the Mustangs have played two exceptional teams in Salisbury and Concord.
Jake Becker already has two fumble recoveries for North. Fullback Corey Darrah runs hard for East.
