GRANITE QUARRY ó Kim Yost Fraley has become a write-in candidate for the Granite Quarry Board of Aldermen.
Fraley said Thursday she intended all along to file as a candidate with the Rowan County Board of Elections but missed the noon deadline July 15, thinking she had until 5 p.m. to file.
Fraley, 47, is making her first run for town board, which has three seats up for election this year.
ěIíve been from Granite Quarry all my life, and people know me,î Fraley said. ěOnce itís in the paper and everybody hears it in church and all, Iíll be OK.î
She said she would like to see the town grow commercially ěto help with taxes on homeowners.î Fraley said she also would like ěto get new and more energetic voices in the office.î
The three incumbents, Mary S. Ponds, Jake Fisher and Bill Feather, are seeking re-election to four-year terms. Challengers include Fraley, J. Robert Anderson, Michael Brinkley, Robert ěDannyî Gay, Jim LaFevers and Baxter ěBuddyî Miller.
Fraley studied accounting at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and is field office professional Monday-Thursday for Thrivent Financial. On Fridays, she works at Chapman Signs, owned by her husband and herself, and during tax season she is a tax preparer for B&B Tax Service.
She is a board member of the East Rowan Chapter of Thrivent Financial, the Granite Quarry Fire Department Auxiliary, Granite Quarry Elementary PTA and Supporters of Education at East Rowan (SEER).
She and her husband, Bill, have two daughters and live at 508 Barringer St.
