DCCC offers career training
Career professionals seeking employment can improve their job search skills by enrolling in a Professional Employability Lab at the Davie Education Center of Davidson County Community College. Class sessions will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 12 and ending Dec. 14, 9 a.m.-noon.
The Career Transitions series of workshops was designed to give the unemployed professional an extra boost and competitive edge in job searching.
The 13-week series will focus on a variety of topics including:
• The importance of creating a personal brand and a social media presence in the job search;
• Traditional and innovative ways to network;
• Turbo charging a resume to obtain more results;
• Online job searches;
• Interviewing skills.
Classes will be taught by Tami C. Sappenfield, an experienced career counselor who has worked in the community college system for more than 10 years. She holds an international certification as a Global Career Development Facilitator. In addition, guest speakers will share their expertise in various job search areas. Plans also include a panel of human resource managers assembled to review participants’ resumes and provide up-to-date information on what they are looking for when screening applicants.
Career Readiness Certificate preparation and training will be available during the classes to participants. The CRC is a portable skills credential that measures essential workplace skills and is a reliable predictor of workplace success. The credential gives employers and career seekers a uniform measure of key workplace skills. Numerous North Carolina employers use the CRC for selection, training and promotions purposes.
The Career Transitions series is designed for open entry/exit and therefore may fit in with various schedules of participants.
