Woman who died in Kannapolis accident identified

KANNAPOLIS — Authorities have identified the woman who died in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.
Lemanda Hannah Grimes, 42, of 716 Chris Drive, died after her 2001 Ford Ranger overturned on Pump Station Road near West C Street around 3:30 p.m.
Police said an open cell phone was found in the cab of the truck.
“It appeared she was talking on the cell phone at the time of the crash,” Kannapolis Police Officer E.B. Ashworth wrote in an accident report.
According to the accident report, Grimes was driving north and ran off her side the road. She overcorrected, pulling the truck into the southbound lane of the road. She then overcorrected again, pulling the vehicle back to the right. She lost control and struck a concrete median at the entrance to the Kannapolis waste water treatment plant.
The truck overturned, landing on the driver’s side of the cab.
“The investigation is continuing to determine if the victim was impaired at the time of the incident and those results may take several days,”?a statement from the Kannapolis Police Department said.
