A Salisbury man suffered a stab wound to his side Sunday night after authorities say he tried to steal his ex-girlfriend’s dog.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Jonathan Patton, 23, told his ex-girlfriend that he wanted to come by 385 Ferrell Lane to “see the dog because he didn’t know how much prison time he’d have.”
Patton’s ex-girlfriend, Holli Morgan, told authorities that she agreed and that Patton showed up at the house on Sunday with his brother and his brother’s girlfriend.
Morgan and her current boyfriend told Patton he could come in, but told the others to wait outside, the report said.
When Patton entered, Morgan told authorities he tried to grab the dog and leave with it.
At that time, Jeremy Patton, Jonathan’s brother, came in the house, according to the report, and grabbed Morgan’s boyfriend, placing him in a headlock.
Jonathan Patton reportedly punched the man in the head while he was being restrained.
Morgan then grabbed a folding knife and stabbed Jonathan Patton in the side. He was able to leave with the dog, the report said.
Deputies found blood stains in the home when they arrived shortly after and heard an EMS call to 1045 Peyton Lane in reference to a stabbing.
When they arrived, authorities found Jonathan Patton with bandages to his side.
It’s unclear if the dog was returned to Morgan. At this time no charges have been filed. According to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman John Sifford, the case’s evidence will be presented to the district attorney.
Jonathan Patton was initially taken to Rowan Regional, but was transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, according to the report, and was in stable condition. The hospital reported that they “do not have any information for that patient.”
According to the report, Jonathan Patton was wanted for probation violation stemming from a June 2011 incident. His brother, Jeremy Patton, will be in court on Sept. 19 for a May incident in which he was charged with resisting, obstructing and delaying an officer, assault by strangulation, communicating threats, assaulting a female and assault inflicting serious bodily injury.
