Salisbury Academy started classes Wednesday with its largest enrollment since 1998.
Opening day enrollment stands at 167, an increase of 19 students from opening day enrollment last year of 148.
The school attracts students from High Point, Lexington, Mocksville, Salisbury and Concord in junior kindergarten through eighth grades.
Salisbury Academy offers a facility that supports academics with large classrooms that allow for hands-on, experiential learning, and classrooms dedicated to art, science, library, and music.
A gymnasium and outdoor fields provide opportunities for physical education and an athletic program as members of the Central Carolina Independent School Athletic Association. The school also offers opportunities for exploration through after school clubs such as Lego robotics, forensic science, and the performing arts.
Salisbury Academy uses the Core Knowledge Sequence developed by E.D. Hirsh to deliver curriculum in a logical way that is developmentally appropriate. Field trips, hands-on projects, and guest speakers bring the curriculum to life for the students.
“Our teaching methods encourage creativity, collaboration, communication, character, and critical thinking,” said Diane Fisher, Head of School.
Students learn Spanish not only as a foreign language but also as a cultural experience increasing global awareness. Students are taught Spanish using techniques that encourage fluency, such as video conferencing with other students throughout the world that speak Spanish.
Technology and character are integrated into each student’s daily experience at Salisbury Academy. Strong study habits and student ownership of the learning process are valuable components at Salisbury Academy and are important lessons for success in any school or profession.
