SALISBURY — A Salisbury man was charged Tuesday after police said he tried to hide marijuana in his mouth while being booked for possession of marijuana.
According to a Salisbury Police report, Marcus Sanjay Alexander, 29, was charged after the Police Interdiction Team, PIT, stopped his 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass on South Merritt Street and found marijuana in the trunk.
The report said a police dog alerted on the vehicle, and police found .06 ounces of marijuana in the man’s trunk.
Alexander was then searched and transported to the police station, according to the report, for booking, but told authorities after arriving that he needed to use the restroom.
When he returned from the restroom, officers noticed the man’s mouth was filled with marijuana.
Alexander initially refused to spit the drugs out, the report said, but did so only after being told a Taser would be used if he did not comply.
The report said an additional .08 ounces of marijuana were in the man’s mouth and that the drugs were held in an undisclosed location.
Alexander, of 1101 Old Plank Road, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer.
He was given a $2,500 bond. He was in jail Wednesday morning.
