RCCC offers continuing education classes

Rowan-Cabarrus is offering continuing education and personal enrichment classes of all kinds this fall.
The college aims to provide affordable and accessible courses for both personal and professional development.
Activity director
If you are interested in a career as a state-approved activity director for nursing homes, this is the course you need. You will learn about state and federal regulations, how to plan and implement activities, and various other duties that encompass the activity profession. State regulations set certain criteria to be an activity director. This 60-hour, state approved course meets the N.C. qualification requirements.
Sept. 15-Nov. 28, 6-9 p.m., Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, Hurley Room; registration, $175. Space is limited and advanced registration is required. Textbook: $56 plus tax.
Plumbing contractoríslicense preparation
This is for students who have worked a minimum of 2,000 hours under a North Carolina licensed plumber and are ready to obtain their licenses.
Oct. 4-Nov. 8, 6-9 p.m., CBTC; registration $120. This class requires advanced registration in person. Materials/text: North Carolina Plumbing Code, 2009 edition; North Carolina Fuel Gas Code, 2009 edition; North Carolina Building Code, 2009 edition.
Residential contractorlicense exam review
This course is a review of the laws, codes and procedures covered by the general contractorís license examination for residential and light construction.
Oct 4-Nov. 3, 5:30-8:30 p.m., North Campus; registration, $120. This class requires advanced registration in person. Materials/text: N.C. Residential Contractor Code 2009 Edition, available for purchase at RCCC bookstore; Contractor’s Guide to Business & Law (5th Edition), also at the bookstore; OSHA Handbook.
Antique Decoratingand Appraising
Inspired by the popular television show, ěAntiques Roadshow,î this class will focus on how to identify antiques, how to use antiques in decorating, and how to identify values of antiques. Each student will be able to bring two items for discussion and in-class appraisal (students do not need to bring items to the first class).

Basics of solar thermal hot water systems

Estate settlement
Family members can be burdened with trying to handle the logistics of a loved ones death. This class will help students understand ways to liquidate items in an estate, including personal property and real estate. This class will offer insight on ownership, probate law, auctions, tag sales, and provide a way to navigate the process of settling an estate.
Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 12-Sept. 28, 5:30- 8:30 p.m., South Campus (Concord), Building 1000, Room 106; registration, $90.
Mixed-level yoga: level one
This 10-week course encourages Yogis of all levels to participate. Yoga is an exercise that strengthens the body and mind through exercises in relaxation and balance. Space is limited to 15 students to facilitate individualized instruction. Bring a yoga mat and wear loose, comfortable clothing.
