SALISBURY — A pregnant woman and her husband were taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center after a Monday afternoon accident on Interstate 85 that involved at least three vehicles.
Neither the man nor his wife, who is 33 weeks pregnant, was seriously injured in the wreck, according to the Highway Patrol. The couple was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center. The couple’s small boy was also in the vehicle, but was not injured.
Megan Puzia, a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill, said she was traveling northbound on I-85 in one of the middle lanes when a car merged into her lane from the left. Puzia said she merged left to avoid the oncoming car, which forced the vehicle on her left to jerk left to avoid her dark gray Nissan Maxima.
Joshua Paul Mark, his pregnant wife and their toddler were in the light blue Ford Expedition to Puzia’s immediate left. Mark’s SUV sideswiped the inside retaining wall and then cut back across traffic slamming the outside metal retaining wall.
Mark and his wife were taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center. Their injuries did not appear serious. Mark’s wife’s name was not immediately available. Puzia was not injured.
The Highway Patrol said they believe there were as many as three other vehicles that were involved in the wreck between Julian Road and Jake Alexander Boulevard.
Highway Patrol is still investigating. Check back for more information.
