Area sports briefs: Intimidators win

The Kannapolis Intimidators edged Hagerstown 2-1 on Sunday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
Trayce Thompson and Miguel Gonzalez had RBIs to back strong pitching by Jon Bachanov. Thompson, the center fielder, also threw out a runner at the plate.
Stephen Strasburg is scheduled to pitch for Hagerstown today against Hickory.
Seattle’s Kyle Seager (NW Cabarrus) had his third two-hit game in the past week on Sunday. He’s played shortstop, second base and third base for the Mariners and is now batting .224 after a rocky start.
Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) had a big game in Winston-Salem’s 15-3 rout of Potomac on Sunday. Wagner was 4-for-5, including a triple. He drove in two runs and raised his batting average to .248.
Spencer Steedley (East Rowan) appears to be making a transition from reliever to starting pitcher for New Britain. The last three outings for Steedley (3-4) have been in a starting role. He allowed three runs in four innings on Saturday.
Jerry Sands (Catawba) swatted a double for Albuquerque on Sunday. Between Triple A and the majors, he has 26 homers, 27 doubles and 89 RBIs this season.
In Lynchburg’s 12-1 romp against Winston-Salem on Sunday, catcher Ryan Query (A.L. Brown, Catawba) had a double, threw out a basestealer and picked up an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Craige Lyerly (East Rowan, Catawba) knocked in one run in Hudson Valley’s 8-3 loss to Vermont on Sunday. He’s batting .292.
Local golf
The McCanless Couples played a nine-hole, four-person Captain’s Choice format on Sunday.
Winning was the team of Ricky and Treva Honeycutt and Don Goodnight and Eileen Full with a score of 29.
Second was the team of Ty and Beverly Cobb and Tim and Jessica Earnhardt.
Gene and Mary Seaford and Jeff and Tabitha Warren placed third.
Closest to the pin winner was Ricky Honeycutt and longest putt winner was Chris Livengood.
