Today, Saturday, Aug. 13 from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at 601 E. Cemetery St., the Tower of Power Church in partnership with the NAACP will sponsor a community cookout, voter-registration, and NAACP membership drive.
In addition to the free food (hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, baked beans, slaw, sodas, bottled water), there will be entertainment by a local gospel groups, praise dancing, testimonials by ex-offenders, and door prizes.
Any group wanting to participate is welcome.
Pine Ridge Baptist
CHINA GROVE ó The Page Family from Albemarle will start the morning worship with singing Sunday, Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. and pastor George Bradshaw will follow with the message. There is no Sunday school and there will be prayer before the evening worship at 6 p.m.
Pine Ridge Baptist Church is located at 880 Old Linn Road between Daughtery and Pine Ridge.
Union Evangelical Lutheran
Union Evangelical Lutheran Church at 4770 Bringle Ferry Road is celebrating its annual homecoming Sunday, Aug. 14 during the 10:30 a.m. worship service, followed by a covered-dish dinner on the grounds.
Originally known as the ěDutch Pine Meeting House,î Union Church was organized in 1774. Retired Lutheran minister the Rev. John E. Pless will speak. Pastor Pless has family roots in the history of the pastoral ministry at Union Church. His grandfather, the Rev. C.R. Pless, served as the pastor from 1915-1918.
Messiah Lutheran
Messiah Lutheran Church, 701 E. Lafayette St., is celebrating their 69th anniversary Sunday, Aug. 14.
Interim pastor Don Safrit will conduct the 11 a.m. service. An altar cloth made in Bolivia and given to the church by the Rev. Justin and wife Kari Eller, missionaries in Bolivia, will be dedicated during the service. Special guest speaker is the Rev. Jeffrey L. Hoffner.
Hoffner graduated from East Rowan High School, the University of NC-Chapel Hill and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Christ Lutheran Church, Fort Lauderdale. He is currently a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
A covered-dish dinner follows in the fellowship hall.
Mt. Zion Baptist, BQ
MT. ULLA ó Mt. Zion Baptist Church Boyden Quarters will hold Family and Friends Day on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m.
Revival services run Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 16-18 at 7 p.m. nightly. Speakers for the week are pastor Shannon Jessup, pastor Brent Bailey and evangelist Cathye Marlin.

Rose of Sharon Church
Rose of Sharon church is celebrating Dr. Lewis G. and Minister Julia Walkerís first pastoral anniversary Sunday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The 11 a.m. speaker is pastor Terry Cherry with his congregation from Mount Moriah Holiness Church, Mooresville, and the 3 p.m. speaker is pastor Perry Dye, Henderson Grove Baptist Church along with his congregation, choir and ushers.

First Calvary Baptist
First Calvary Baptist Church will observe Youth Day Sunday with two special services. Assistant pastor the Rev. Juanita K. Allen will bring the message at the 11 a.m. service. The Rev. Tim Bates, pastor of Cameron Presbyterian and Calvary Presbyterian Churches in Statesville, will be the speaker at the 4 p.m. service.

Macedonia Missionary
CONCORD ó Homecoming and revival services at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Concord will begin Sunday, Aug. 14 at 3 p.m. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.
Guests will be pastor Eric Baker along with his choirs and congregation of New St. John Baptist Church of Charlotte.
Revival services are Aug. 15-8 at 7 p.m. nightly. Speaker for the week will be vice-president-at-large of the General Baptist State Convention of NC and pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Salisbury, Dr. Nilous Avery.

Antioch Missionary Baptist
GRANITE QUARRY ó Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 602 S. Salisbury Ave., is celebrating their annual homecoming Sunday, Aug. 14 at 3 p.m.
Pastor Arthur Heggins of St. Luke Baptist Church, Salisbury, is guest speaker, accompanied by his choir and congregation. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

CLEVELAND ó Mooreís Chapel AME Zion Church, 5890 S. River Church Road, is holding its annual homecoming service on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 3:30 p.m. The guest speaker is Rev. Rudolph Cornelius, pastor of Zion Wesley AME Zion Church in Troutman, who will be attended by his choir and congregation. Lunch will be served at 2 p.m.

Trinity Presbyterian Church, USA is having their annual Usher Board Program, Sunday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. The Rev. Lovetta Miller, associate minister of Mt. Zion Baptist church is the speaker. The Womenís Choir of Cameron Presbyterian Church, Statesville will render music.
St. Matthewís Lutheran
The Bluegrass group Broke-N-Lonesome is performing at St. Matthewís Lutheran Church Sunday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Family Life Center. This band has won many awards, both as a group and individually.

Combined VBS
Soldiers Memorial and Mooreís Chapel AME Zion churches will hold a combined VBS, ěIsland Odyssey: To the Ends of the Earth with Jesus Christ.î

Youth Academy show
CONCORD ó The New Wine Christian Arts Youth Academy summer camp, with an enrollment of more than 45 young people from Kannapolis and Concord, presents ěShowcasing The WIZî at Bethpage Presbyterian Church. New Wine uses a variety of art form as a means of self expression and life lessons.
