SALISBURY — Mayor Susan Kluttz has been appointed vice chairwoman of the Amtrak Mayors’ Advisory Council.
Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett is the new chairman of the organization. Amtrak Chairman Tom Carper announced the appointments today.
The 15-member council aims to raise awareness of intercity passenger-rail services and support Amtrak service in the mayors’ respective communities, Carper said in a press release.
Railroads have been an important part of Salisbury’s history since 1855, “and the addition of Amtrak service in 1971 has been a tremendous asset,” Kluttz said in the statement. “Salisbury looks forward to a bright future as we prepare to be part of high-speed rail.”
