SALISBURY — A convicted felon arrested last week for carrying a firearm was charged with trafficking in heroin Monday.
Robert Eugene Craver, 33, of 255 Teague Road in Salisbury, was charged with drug trafficking; possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin; maintaining a dwelling to keep and store drugs and two counts of selling and delivering a controlled substance.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office says its special investigations team made undercover purchases of hydrocodone and black tar heroin from Craver. The investigation began in late June.
Craver has remained in the Rowan County Detention Center since he was arrested last week and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was given a $47,500 bond last week and another $50,000 bond Monday.
Craver also was arrested in December 2010 after authorities said he tried to run over another man with his car.
In April, he was indicted by a Rowan County grand jury on charges connected to that incident, including possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession/attempted possession of a firearm while a protective order was in place, resist/obstruct/delay an officer and felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
And in June, Craver was charged with driving while impaired and driving left of center after authorities said he caused a head-on collision when, late for court, he looked down at his cell phone while driving trying to find his attorney’s number and drifted into the path of an oncoming pickup.
