Politicians should consider ‘America the Beautiful’
Early this a.m., I got on my computer and pulled up the lyrics of the song “America the Beautiful.” These words were written by Katharine Lee Bates after a trip to the top of Pikes Peak, Colo., in 1893.
With the acrimony that is going in Washington, D.C., over the debt ceiling, it would behoove all of these politicians to read the words of this inspiring song. Six times it repeats the words: “God shed his grace on thee.” It also has these words: “Who more than self their country loved.”
Do Washington politicians love their country more than self?
And these words: “ ’til selfish gain no longer stain the banner of the free.”
Are Washington politicians putting away selfish gain for the good of America?
These Washington politicians who claim to love God and country should read 1 John 3, verse 17.

Tommy Lee isn’t the problem
It is amazing to me that people are worried about all of the off-duty officers hanging out at the shooting range with Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee. Yet they are not so worried about the drug dealers and prostitutes who walk down Long Street carrying an unlicensed gun ready to kill someone over a few dollars.
I could see a problem if these officers were on duty. I would rather have Tommy Lee standing beside me with a loaded gun than a person strung out on drugs walking down the street.
Please spend my tax dollars on more important issues and leave all these officers alone who protect us.
We have so many policies in place that we can’t function.
Spend my taxes on someone with no AC or on teachers for our children.
