Triathlon camp starting Monday

SALISBURY — Salisbury Parks and Recreation will host the last kids’ triathlon camp for the summer starting Monday and ending on Friday Aug. 5. The camp will take place on the Catawba College campus and is open to boys and girls ages 8-14.
Through Thursday, camp starts each day at 9 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. Lunch is provided.
On Aug. 5, the camp will conclude with a triathlon competition beginning at 9:30 a.m. Parents and friends are invited to attend the competition.
Cost for the camp is $40 for Salisbury residents and $60 for non-residents. Each finisher will receive a medal and a T-shirt.
Each camper must bring a towel, swimsuit, bicycle, helmet, running clothes and water bottle. Bicycles will be stored at the college during the week.
Instructors for the camp are David Freeze, a U.S. Association of Track and Field certified coach and certified personal trainer, and Kim Miller, a certified lifeguard, avid swimmer, cyclist and runner. Instruction will be given in running, biking, swimming and transitions.
Throughout the week, specialized techniques for improved performance will be taught, and campers will receive individual coaching. Nutrition will be discussed with an emphasis on athletic performance.
