Man charged with kidnapping 81-year-old woman

Salisbury —A Salisbury man was arrested Sunday morning after authorities say he broke into an elderly woman’s home and robbed her.
According to a Salisbury Police report, Johnny Paul Sheppard, 31, broke into 81-year-old Myrtle Reel’s home at 115 E. Monroe St. early Sunday morning.
The report said Sheppard threatened Myrtle Reel with a box cutter and demanded her purse. Reel told police Sheppard told her he needed the money for drugs.
Sheppard lives in the same residential complex as Reel, and after calling police, Reel instructed officers to Sheppard’s apartment. He was found inside with Reel’s purse and the weapon.
Sheppard was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping. He was given a $70,000 secured bond.
