Asheboroís Trey Holmes (East Rowan) is tied for second in the Coastal Plain League in homers (6) and RBIs (26). Heís batting .296.
n Forest Cityís Nick Lomascolo (Catawba) is 2-1 in the CPL with a 2.20 ERA.
n Morgantonís John J. Tuttle (A.L. Brown, Catawba) had a good outing on Friday in a 7-6 victory against Lake Norman in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League. Tuttle struck out four in five innings and allowed three runs. He was credited with the win.
Garrett Furr (Catawba) had two hits for Morganton.
n Justin Roland (East) got off to a slow start with the Statesville Owls of the SCBL, but heís hit safely in his last seven games. He scored twice in Saturdayís 5-4 win against the Carolina Chaos.n Jason Ridenhour (North) is 3-1 on the mound for the Owls.
n Minor leagues
Wade Moore (West Rowan, Catawba) had two hits for Hagerstown on Sunday in an 8-2 win against Lexington.
n Whit Merrifield (Davie) had a triple for Wilmington on Sunday and broke out of a 1-for-28 dry spell that had dropped his BA to .260.
n The Kannapolis Intimidators were still battling Asheville 4-4 in extra innings Sunday night at presstime. There was an early holiday deadline for Mondayís edition.
n American Legion
Rowan plays tonight against Kannapolis at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Rowan clinches a tie for first if it wins and would earn the Southern Divisionís No. 1 seed for the playoffs based on tiebreakers.
n Catawba swimmingCatawba swimmers Jaimie Horton, Leah Constan-Tatos, Mikael Karlsson, Yakir Malul, Zach Owen and Alex Walpole were named to the Bluegrass Mountain Conference all-academic team.
