Another traffic stop leads to felony charges

An East Spencer man faces felony charges for possessing a stolen handgun.
During a traffic stop, Salisbury Police charged Lonnie Ray Carpenter Jr., 23, of 512 E. Hall St., with felony possessing stolen goods, felony possession of a firearm by a felon and misdemeanor carrying a concealed pistol.
When police pulled Demarcus Deshawn Tracey, 17, of 932 E. Lafayette St., a K-9 unit was brought in to check the car.
The men were asked to exit the car. When police patted down Carpenter they found a gun in his waistband.
Police also found about 15 smoked marijuana cigarettes in the ashtray of the car.
Tracey has been charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was released with a written promise to appear in court July 25.
Carpenter was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
He was convicted of felony drug possession in 2006, according to information from the N.C. Department of Corrections.
