CONCORD — The Avett Brothers’ July 9 concert from the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Co., will be simulcast live on the world’s largest HDTV at Charlotte Motor Speedway, which will allow local Avett Brothers fans to view the live show on the 80-foot-by-200-foot HDTV. The speedway will also supply concert-grade speakers for the event.
Speedway gates on Saturday, July 9, will open at 8 p.m. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. with the Avett Brothers scheduled to perform around 11 p.m.
Tickets for the July 9 simulcast are on sale now and can be purchased at the speedway ticket office or by calling 1-800-455-FANS (3267). Tickets are $10 until July 1 when they will increase to $15 until July 8. Tickets purchased the day of the event, July 9, will cost $20.

Blues and Jazz fundraiser
Veronika Jackson, who performed at Merlefest this year, will bring her talents to the Black Box Theater, 405 N. Lee Street, Wednesday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m. Acoustic bluesman Shelton Powe from the Music Makers Foundation will open the concert, sponsored by the Rowan Blues and Jazz Society. DAVIDSON — [0x1d]Downtown Davidson hosts the variety band Rough Draft in the July installment of Concerts on the Green, 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 3.
The free rain-or-shine event takes place on the Village Green in front of the public library at the intersection of Main Street and Concord Road.

Exhibit updated
The Rowan Museum Exhibits Committee has updated the Civil War exhibit: When We Fought Ourselves.
The latest update comes in the way of a new view of Stoneman’s Raid on Salisbury. After viewing a closeup diorama of the attack near the Western N.C. Railroad created by Steven Wise for several months, there was a request to expand the view so that guests not familiar with Salisbury could gain a bigger picture of the attack on Salisbury on April 12, 1865.
Under the direction of Steven Wise, smaller model soldiers were ordered to present this new view in a closer scale version on a newly constructed base of the local properties on which the attack occurred. Now the viewer can see a representation of the events that took place along Grant’s Creek, the Union attack routes, and the Confederate defenses.
Ren Fest auditions
CHARLOTTE — The Carolina Renaissance Festival, a combination of outdoor theater, circus, arts and crafts fair, jousting tournament and feast, will hold open auditions for street characters, musicians, dancers and variety acts on Saturday, July 9 from 9 a.m. to noon and on Wednesday, July 13, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The Renaissance Festival is also seeking adult male actors to fill the featured role of King. Those auditioning for King are required to meet additional requirements which can be found at the Festival’s website at RenFestInfo.com.

Dancing With The Stars champs coming
CHARLOTTE — Super Bowl MVP and 2011 Dancing with the Stars Champion Hines Ward will make his first-ever Charlotte appearance at the South Park Mall in Charlotte on Saturday, July 23. The Pittsburgh Steelers standout will be joined on Saturday by his dancing partner and two-time Dancing with the Stars Champion, Kym Johnson.
The weekend of July 22-24, Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl wide receiver Steve Smith will join three former Pittsburgh Steelers greats — Jerome Bettis, Donnie Shell and Rocky Bleier.

Tweetsie July 4th
BLOWING ROCK — Tweetsie Railroad’s annual July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza is in its 54th year. The park will stay open until 9 p.m., and at 9:30 p.m. more than 200 large-caliber pyrotechnic mortar shells will light up the High Country sky.
Parking for July 4th is $5 per vehicle; season pass holders park for free. In the event of severe weather, the rain date is July 5.
Tweetsie also offers an optional dinner and exclusive fireworks viewing area with a buffet meal. Adult tickets for the dinner are $12.95, $9.95 for children ages 3-12 and children 2 and under are free. Dinner tickets can be purchased at the park on July 4.

Battleship fireworks
WILMINGTON — The Battleship North Carolina will be the site of the 15th annual Battleship Blast, a major fireworks display at 9:05 p.m. July 4.
Primary viewing will be from downtown Wilmington. The entire Battleship complex on Eagles Island will be closed at 6 p.m.
