Man charged with felony assault

KANNAPOLIS ó A Kannapolis man was arrested with assault Monday after authorities said he went to a manís house and beat him.
Joshua Brandon Long, 20, of 6237 Charlie Walker Road, was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
According to reports, Long went to the home of Jereme Bates, 21, of 336 Allman Farm Road, Kannapolis after midnight on Saturday.
ěHe got into an altercation with Jereme Bates,î said Capt. John Sifford of the Rowan County Sheriffís Office.
Bates was beaten with some type of bracing for a door, Sifford said.
He received severe cuts to his left elbow and welts to the left side of his back. He was kicked in the head several times during the assault, Sifford said.
Bates was taken to Carolinas Medical Center NorthEast where he was treated.
Deputies served an arrest warrant for Long on Sunday. He surrendered himself to Cabarrus County authorities on Monday.
There is no indication of the reason for the altercation.
Long was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $2,500 secured bond. He has since been released.
