SPENCER, N.C. — A Rowan County Sheriff’s deputy reportedly hit a deer on Long Ferry Road last Friday.
A report from the sheriff’s office indicates that Officer McHone was driving at about 3:30 a.m. near 2004 Long Ferry Road when a deer ran out in front of him.
McHoney tried to miss the deer, but the deer hit the front passenger door and broke out a headlight in the patrol car.
According to Captain Sifford of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, a patrol officer hitting a deer isn’t too rare an incident. “It’s not uncommon with as many miles as our guys drive,” he said.
Officer McHone was not injured in the incident. As for the deer, “it’s probably safe to say it’s not all right,” Sifford said.
