SALISBURY — A Salisbury man faces multiple felony drug charges after being stopped by Salisbury Police at a license checkpoint Tuesday.
Capt. Shelia Lingle said when officers approached 26-year-old Dennis Monroe Alexander’s vehicle at a checkpoint at the intersection of Military and Railroad streets, they detected a strong odor of marijuana.
Police searched Alexander and found a bag of powdered cocaine in his front pants pocket. They also found $825 and a food stamp card with someone else’s name in his possession.
A canine search of the vehicle turned up 23 grams of marijuana, hydrocodone pills and drug paraphernalia.
Alexander, of 651 Linn Lane, was taken before the magistrate and given a $4,500 secured bond.
He was transported to the Rowan County Detention Center, where a correction officer reportedly found 7.5 grams of crack cocaine and .9 grams of powdered cocaine between his buttocks.
Alexander has been charged with food stamp fraud, simple possession of prescription pills, felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, felony possession of cocaine with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and felony possession of a controlled substance on a penal institution premises.
He is being held in the Detention Center under a $14,500 secured bond.
