Former Rowan County teammates Forrest Buchanan (Salisbury) and Alex Litaker (East Rowan) helped the Carolina Hurricanes beat the West Virginia Wild 3-1 in Bluefield, W. Va., on Saturday in a game in the wood bat Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League.
Buchanan pitched five strong innings, and Litaker finished with two shutout innings for a save.
Litaker pitched four scoreless innings of relief on Sunday in a 2-1 victory over the Roanoke Rail and was credited with the win.
Garrett Furr (Catawba) recently enjoyed a mind-boggling doubleheader for the Morganton Aggies in a Southern Collegiate Baseball League game against the Asheville Redbirds.
Furr hit four homers and drove in 14 of his team’s 24 runs in a doubleheader sweep.
He also stole two bases.
Asheboro’s Trey Holmes (East) is leading the Coastal Plain League in RBIs with 22.
Nick Lomascolo (Catawba) is 1-1 for Forest City with an ERA of 2.91.
Pro baseball
Wade Moore (West Rowan, Catawba) hit a two-run homer and knocked in four runs as Hagerstown smashed Delmarva 11-4 on Sunday.
The Kannapolis Intimidators powered their way to a 9-7 win against the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Sunday.
Dan Black had four RBIs for Kannapolis, three on a bases-loaded triple. Dexter Carter (2-2) got the win.
The Intimidators are off until Thursday. The South Atlantic League All-Star Game will be played at Delmarva on Tuesday.
Daniel Wagner had a hit and scored a run for Winston-Salem in a 3-2 win against Wilmington on Sunday.
Jerry Sands (Catawba) had two RBIs for Albuquerque in an 8-5 loss to Iowa on Sunday.
