CHINA GROVE – Authorities trying to serve warrants on a China Grove man had to use a stun gun to keep him from running away from his home Wednesday night.
A report from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said the man, Carl Milas Hurley Park, was involved in a domestic disturbance at 515 Sloop St. June 7, but ran from the home before authorities arrived because he knew he was wanted on outstanding warrants for failure to appear and failure to pay child support, the report said.
On Wednesday the sheriff’s office and Landis Police went back to Park’s residence, but were told by a woman at the home that Park was not there, the report said. A Landis Officer was near the back of the home, and saw Park run to the basement.
The officers went to the basement and tried to open one of three doors, but couldn’t, and felt someone on the other side pulling against the officers. The officers ordered Park to let go, but he wouldn’t, so the door was forced open, and Park took off for the stairs back into the home, the report said.
Park was shot with the stun gun after refusing to stop as ordered by the officers.
Park, 43, was charged with resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer and given a $2,000 secured bond.
