KANNAPOLIS — A China Grove man faces misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges after a sheriff’s deputy stopped to check a suspicious vehicle Saturday.
A Rowan County Sheriff’s deputy on routine patrol late Saturday night reported seeing a red Saturn passenger vehicle pulled off the side of the 3700 block of Enochville Road in Kannapolis.
When the deputy stopped to check on it, he found James Brawley, 21, of 150 McField Drive in China Grove, in the driver’s seat.
According to the sheriff’s office report, Brawley said he was stopped because his tires were slick in the rain. Brawley’s eyes were glassy and he appeared nervous, the deputy said.
Brawley was found to have an expired tag and an inspection violation and told to step out of the car.
During a pat-down search for weapons, the deputy reportedly found a small bag in Brawley’s left shirt pocket with about two grams of marijuana. With Brawley’s consent, the report said, the deputy then searched the center console of the vehicle and found what appeared to be a pipe for smoking marijuana.
Brawley was given citations for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, expired registration and expired inspection.
In other Rowan County Sheriff’s Office reports for the weekend:
• Robert Brandon Garmon, 27, of Kannapolis, was arrested Friday on charges of assault on a female, kidnapping, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
• Charles Craig Ellison, 50, of 620 W. Liberty St. in Salisbury, was arrested Saturday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
• Rose Ann Mullis, of Meadow Lane in Salisbury, reported the theft of $7,000 in cash from her home between 11:30 p.m. Friday and 6:15 a.m. Saturday.
• Batteries-R-Us, located at 6133 E. N.C. 152 in Salisbury, reported that someone broke into the business through the side door between 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday and took several items.
Reported stolen was $150 in cash, $40 in change and about $1,300 worth of batteries for automobiles, lawn equipment, golf carts, all-terrain vehicles and personal watercraft.
