ATLANTA ó Jair Jurrjens couldn’t slow Jose Reyes, who had three hits, two steals, an RBI and scored two runs to lead the New York Mets to a 4-3 win over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.
Jurrjens (8-3), who began the night with the best ERA in the majors at 1.82, set season highs with five walks while allowing eight hits and four runs in 51/3 innings.
Reyes’ 34th multihit game ó tops in the majors ó helped Jonathon Niese (6-5) win his third straight decision. Niese allowed two runs on five hits and no walks in 6 1-3 innings.
“I told him the other day, if I wasn’t playing baseball I’d probably buy a ticket to come watch him play,” said New York’s Willie Harris, who followed Reyes in the batting order and had a hit, a steal and scored a run.
Dan Uggla’s homer off Jason Isringhausen in the eighth cut the Mets’ lead to 4-3. Chipper Jones followed with a long drive that a leaping Carlos Beltran caught in front of the right-field wall.
Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth for his 19th save as the Mets won for the eighth time in 12 games.
Nationals 8, Cardinals 6
WASHINGTON ó Ryan Zimmerman hit a run-scoring double in his return from the disabled list to spark a six-run seventh-inning as Washington beat St. Louis 8-6 on Tuesday night.
Zimmerman had missed 58 games because of an injured abdominal muscle. He doubled down the right-field line to drive in the Nationals’ first run of the seventh.
Phillies 9, Marlins 1
PHILADELPHIA ó Cole Hamels pitched seven dominant innings to become the NL’s second nine-game winner and Domonic Brown hit two of Philadelphia’s season-high five homers.
Hamels (9-2) allowed one run and three hits to tie teammate Roy Halladay and Boston’s Jon Lester for most wins in the majors. He struck out six and walked one.
Hamels left the game in the eighth with tightness in the middle of his back. There was no immediate word on the extent of the injury.
Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins hit two-run homers, and Brown had two solo shots to help Philadelphia win its fourth straight game.
Chris Volstad (2-7) gave up eight runs and 10 hits in 5 2-3 innings for the Marlins, who have lost 11 of 12.

HOUSTON ó Jeff Karstens pitched three-hit ball into the seventh and five relievers finished Pittsburgh’s four-hitter.
Garrett Jones drove in the game’s only run with a single to right field in the second inning.
Karstens (4-4) struck out three and walked none in 6 2-3 innings. The right-hander is 1-0 with a 0.44 ERA in three starts in June and is working on a scoreless streak of 142/3 innings.
