Blotter: Man charged with child abuse

SALISBURY – Salisbury police charged a man with misdemeanor child abuse Monday after they say he left three children in a parked SUV for about an hour.
Earl Douglas Rogers, 69, of 12207 Jumper Lane in Mint Hill, drove to the Salisbury VA hospital for an appointment early Monday afternoon. Police say his grandchildren, ages 8, 5 and 3, stayed in the black SUV with the back windows halfway down.
The Salisbury Police Department was called around 2:30 p.m. when a staff member at the hospital reported that children had been left sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot. Rogers was given citations for three counts of misdemeanor child abuse.

– Habitat For Humanity Restore reported that scrap metal was stolen between 5 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. Friday at 1707 S. Main St.
– Gwen Pope reported the theft of scrap metal at Pope Plumbing & Heating, located at 761 Hedrick St., between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Monday.
– Penrod Medical Equipment reported that a catalytic converter was cut off a vehicle and taken between 5 p.m. Friday and about 9:30 p.m. Monday at 2424 Statesville Blvd.
– Radio Shack reported that an individual stole a television from the Salisbury Mall store, located at 1935 W. Jake Alexander Blvd., between 3:05 and 3:10 p.m. Monday.
