Area sports briefs: East will play Crest

East Rowanís softball team will play Boiling Springs Crest for the Western Regional championship in the first round of the double-elimination 3A Final Four in Raleigh.
East (24-2) played Crestís Chargers twice in 2010, winning 2-1 and losing 7-4.
Crest (22-3) rallied to beat Newton Fred T. Foard 5-2 in eight innings on Saturday.
Greenville D.H. Conley (23-4) has qualified from the East. The other East qualifier will be Southern Vance (22-3) or Southwestern Randolph (24-4).
n Carley Tysingerís one-hitter put Central Davidson in the 2A Final Four. Central beat Surry Central 6-0 on Saturday.n North Davidson used dynamic defense, including a rare 1-4-5 double play, to put coach Mike Lambros back into another 4A Final Four.
The Black Knights beat Southwest Guilford 3-1.
n Prep baseball
South Stanly stayed alive in the 1A Western Championship series with a 5-2 win against Murphy on Saturday. The series moves to a decisive third game on Memorial Day.
n Legion baseball
Mooresville Post 66 lost to Kernersville 4-3 in 10 innings.
Post 66 left 12 men on base and hit into four double plays.
Michael Knight and Nick Keith had two hits each for coach Josh Grahamís Moors.
n Junior Legion
Carson lost 8-4 to Mooresville in a league game.
Devon Peacock was a hard-luck loser.
Colton Laws, Austin McNeill and Greg Tonneson had two hits each for Carson.
n Carson topped Mooresville 4-2 in a non-league game.
Southeast eighth-grader Matt Saul pitched a complete game (five innings) and struck out seven for Carson (2-1, 1-1).
Elijah Beaver had two RBIs, and Brandon Sloop and Jacob Morrison also knocked in runs.
n College baseball
Preston Troutman (East Rowan) scored the only run for Appalachian State in a 2-1 loss to Samford in the Southern Conference Tournament on Saturday.
n Corbin Shive (East) scored a run for Charlotte as the 49ers beat Richmond to win the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Saturday.
n Pro baseball
John Spatola hit a home run for the Kannapolis Intimidators on Saturday in a 5-2 loss at Greensville.
The Intimidators return home today to play against Bryce Harper, Wade Moore and the Hagerstown Suns.
Harper was 2-for-8 as the Suns swept a doubleheader against Asheville on Sunday.
n Local golf
Salisbury resident Frank Adams III tied for fourth in the eGolf Tourís Donald Ross Championship held at Southern Pines. The tournament had 216 entrants.
Adams shot 65-66-67-71 ó 269, 15-under, and won $8,423.
n Prep basketball
The Phenoms 17U boys basketball team participated in a scouting showcase covered by Basketballelite.com.
The team won three games.
Leaders in the paint were North Hillsí Moussa Doucara, West Rowanís Maurice Warren and Lexingtonís Quan Crump.
Westís Keshun Sherrill controlled every game.
Westís Jarvis Morgan, North Rowanís Oshon West, Southís Qua Neal and Thomasvilleís Justice Cuthbertson contributed scoring, defense and rebounds.
Other team members are Nick Schofield, Tim Black and Landon Lippard.
